WHO WAS THAT PROPHET?   In the Bible (John 1:19-21) John the Baptist, when questioned by the Pharisees, denied that he was (1) the Messiah, (2) Elijah and (3) the Prophet.   John 1:19-21 (NIV): 19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was.  20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.” 21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”   The followers of Jesus (the early Christians although at that time Christianity was not yet a separate religion from Judaism) believed that he (Jesus) was the Messiah. These followers were Jews, although the majority of the Jews at that time didn’t believe in him. This is a small effort to try to present the wise, beautiful and loving teachings of Islam to counter the negative perceptions of Islam brought about by the behaviour of certain Muslims who portray Islam as being intolerant, full of hatred, unjust, backward and oppressive (especially to women and to non-Muslims).  Islam as practised by the Taliban and ISIS, and even by majority populations of some Muslim countries does not seem to be the religion coming from The Most Compassionate God. These "Muslims" insult, harm and even kill anyone who disagrees with them, including other Muslims. They are intolerant of non-Muslims and always find fault with them. They limit or ban women from getting education, and impose their strict and narrow interpretations of Islam upon others.
